Provenance of Antique bowling balls - Sean Kenny Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 13:17:45 (EST)
(Responses: 2)
I purchased a set of two English bowling balls yesterday and would very much appreciate any information available. Composition appears to be ebony and ivory, the city of manufacture (in faint print) is Glasgow. The year of manufacturer appears to be 1931 with the word "Official B B" within an embossed stamp. Also, the initials CSWH are on both balls.
Any information or thoughts on origin and value would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Sean

DO MOST DRIVES FINISH NARROW? - bill morton Friday, August 14, 2009 at 01:32:02 (EDT)
(Responses: 0)
MISSED UPSHOTS – DO THEY FINISH WIDE OR NARROW?I believe that bowls have many myths because very little real research exists to test out common beliefs (e.g. after driving it becomes more difficult to draw well). From my discussions, many Players believe such myths and become somewhat upset if you challenge them. My recording of bowls over ten years allows me to check on some myths. However it takes time and no one else rates as silly enough to care – or do work to fi......

However it seems such a waste and thought of selling them on e-bay. They say 'bias No 3', 'set 4' 're-turned by Jaques' and 'London' on each of them, numbered from 1 to 4.
Should I throw them away or will they sell?
any advice gratefully received,

Having just found this site I have been looking through the old posts (going back some 3 years) it seems that there is a certain dislike to young players in the game from a few posters (is that a word?).Being a young bowler myself, 21 years of age and have been playing since I was 12, I find it very disappointing that people feel so much dislike to the youth of the game. I have improved greatly in the time I have been playing and am now on the fringe of county success......

What a shambles crown green is when you compare it to level green. People wearing what they want, normally scruffy jeans and flat caps. They look like darts players. They should be down a dog track rather than on a bowls green.Bowls going everywhere, this is really the poor mans version of the game isnt it? Mind you that's why its not played much in the south, where we have elegance, demur and know how to conduct ourselves. Crown Green, rubbish game!

Electronic Scoreboards - Paul Hogendoorn Wednesday, May 07, 2003 at 10:28:20 (EDT)
(Responses: 0)
My company has just introduced a new electronic scoreboard system for Bocce Ball and Boccia Ball competitions. At a recent event in the Detroit-Windsor area, it was mentioned to me that the board would also work perfectly as it is configured and programmed for Lawn Bowling.
I would appreciate some feedback from anyone that might care to visit our site (www.oes-scoreboards.com) and review the Bocce Ball scoreboard for that purpose.
Thanks.

(Responses: 8)
It is regretful that among the ayrshire bowling association selection commitee, bias decisions are made. When selectors have players attending and indeed playing in matches for their county it is shameful that they do NOT know their players names. However this is not all!! Indeed players have been told to their face that they are NOT good enough to play in the county games. I must remind you again that this is only a minority and infact only one individual.

Bowls in Australia and particularly Brisbane needs more good looking eligable spinsters. How can the sport attract more of the good looking younger ladies. Maybe a good start would be letting them play in any tournament they like. If they are good enough (and i'm sure there are many that are) then what is stopping them. Bloody old minded culture thats what.

You throw it out in your backyard and then see who gets the closest with their coloured balls. Can't seem to find these anywhere.

Help - Jim Metcalfe 22:25:55 2/06/98
(Responses: 0)
Erm, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I am a student who is a keen lawn/indoor bowler from Nottingham now studying in Oxford. I am completely incapable of finding out whether or not this University has a team (although I doubt it). If anybody could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it; also, if there are any good clubs in the area I'd like to know, 'cos I can't survive without playing some bowls this summer. Thanks

Lawn bowlers opinions to Crown Green - Keith Lackford 16:31:02 11/19/97
(Responses: 3)
Browsing through these Lawn Bowls pages I am amazed to read of what a high profile sport Lawn Bowls is out in Australia.
I am a Crown Green Bowler from Great Britain and was wondering, what is the opinion of Crown Green Bowls amongst Lawn Bowlers?
I would also like to ask you is there a lot of young Bowlers participating in Lawn Bowls? I ask this question due to myself being a young bowler at the age of 17 years.
A response would be grately appreciated.

If anyone could tell if women did bowl during the 1930s I would be very grateful.
Also of interest if women did bowl, is how this activity was organized.
Were there for example competition for women?
The way the activity was seen by the rest of the community als......
