SHORT MAT BOWLS .....
I coach adults who have learning disabilities and physical disabilities. We play short mat bowls and are getting to a fairly high standard.
Could anyone supply me with a copy of the "definitive" rules.
Particularly when is an end dead.
Incidentally this is my first ever E-Mail message.
Thanks in anticipation. Clive.

There are not many occasions when an end is dead through normal play.
Just one of them is
1. When the jack is knocked off the mat. The end is restarted
at the same end, the end does not count and is played again.
If two woods (from opposing teams) are touching the jack at the end
of play, the end is tied, not dead. The end counts and the game continues.
If a breach of playing conditions occurs and the two skips cannot agree
where to replace woods that have been disturbed the end can be declared
dead by the skip of the team who did not commit the offence.
I have a copy of the English Short Mat Bowls Assoc. rules and would be
able to send a copy on to you if you need one.
Email your address and I'll see what I can do.
By the way there are several short mat bowls clubs and associations round the country who would probably be better placed than I am, but if you don't know about them, I suppose it's difficult.
email me for more help if you need it

Barrie Fitch

We are a group of ten who play short mat bowls in the local church hall. Do you have on disk a copy of the rules which you can e.mail me?
We have many arguments when we are playing, such as some say that unless the bowl is right over the line at the end of the mat, the bowl is still counted in. Others say that it is out, unless of course it is a toucher. Likewise the ruling for the front line. Also when the jack is knocked off we always award 3 points to the opposing team, but I read email posted by Barrie Fitch that this is counted as a dead end.
I hope you can count.
Many thanks.

I can send you a e-mail of the rules you want if you have got Word 97. I know how hard it is to play when somebody thinks that the rules are different, or wrong.

Thank you in anticipation, the battle continues at our club!!
