IDENTIFICATION OF POSSIBLE BOWLS 'AID' .....
Whilst de-cluttering, I have found an item with 'The Taylor-Rolph Co. Ltd LONDON' marked on a 6cm long flat spool that is fastened to a 2m long green thread that winds on the spool from end to end.
At the other, free end of the thread, there are two 5cm long pegs, one of which is fixed to the end of the thread and the other is free to be moved along the thread.
Both the pegs and the spool are made of a white plastic that resembles ivory.
We had a neighbour many years ago who was a keen bowls person and the item might have been passed to us by his widow.
Can anyone identify the purpose of the item and whether it has any value?

Just descovered this bulletin board but if you still have the item, it is a string measure usually used to measure the distance between a bowl and a jack when one of them is in in the ditch and the other is on the green. It is not usually of much value. The one you describe sell on e-bay for a few £.
