VINTAGE LAWN BOWLS .....
My Dad grew up in Toronto and was an ardent bowler from the late 20's until 1960...His bowls were certified in 1948 but the 8 is an overstrike on what looked like 1940...the Bowls are Townsend & Clark "Champion" Toronto...does anyone have any knowledge of this company ,their history etc ...I can find nothing on the internet...many thanks David

hello David.. I have just cleaned and polished 16 lawn bowls.. Townsend and Clark, made in Canada Toronto.. the word Champion appears (slightly) on some of them the word BIAS and a #47/8 on some.. or 4 15/16. M1055 is readable on one M1043 on another mostly the letters and numbers are illegible.
I was looking on the net to find a source for a little white 'jack'
don't know a thing about the maker of the balls.. just that my father built a lawn bowling green.. well sawdust covered.. the lush pei grass is hard to keep up due to the dew worms making bumps.
it was a great source of entertainment for young and old in the 50's. if you hear anything more do let me know.. cheers from PEI.. where i think summer is coming..
