TAYLOR ROLPH COMPANY LIMITED OF PENSHURST .....
Is anyone able to provide any history of this company and its bowls. I have recently been given a pair of Taylor Rolph wooden bowls that are marked "SET 648 F666 47/8 STJOHNS" on the large emblem side and "TAYLOR ROLPH Co Ltd PENSHURST BIAS 3" on the small emblem side and both have been stamped 1950 on the running face on the small emblem side. The stamp is circular of 2 rings with either BB or 88 inside the inner area and some indistinguishable word between the 2 rings. These were brought out from England this last week and were given to me on 21/09/07. They appear to have some clay or other earthen type material showing from the small and large emblem sides. The timber is mid brown in colour and has either a shelac or other polish finish. I would appreciate any information as to the probable production date, the type of timber used and what the earthy filling might be and if there was any form of emblem applied.
