BOWLS BALLS .....
Hello all,
I have been given many moons ago four wooden bowls balls. I don't bowl and was going to throw them away during a recent garage sort out. However it seems such a waste and thought of selling them on e-bay. They say 'bias No 3', 'set 4' 're-turned by Jaques' and 'London' on each of them, numbered from 1 to 4.
Should I throw them away or will they sell?
any advice gratefully received,
thanks,
Stew Rowe

You wont get much for them on e-bay - £ 10 at most - but dont throw them away. They can be turned down to make junior wooden bowls by Bowls Scotland for kids.

I definitely wouldn't throw them away. They are real 'Wood' bowls.
Not like the plastic things they bowl with today. It is where the term 'Woods' comes from so just keep them. You never know, You might end up taking the game up in the future.

Regretably they are not of high monetary value as has already been stated by others. The wood is Lignum-vitea which originally came from the island of San Domingo in the West Indies. Modern bowls are "composite", usually heavier and harder than the wooden ones, thus they are seldom used these days as they can easily be damaged in play. They are collected by lovers of old things made of wood who just enjoy polishing and loking at them (like me).

I have seen then repolished with the centres taken out and a clock fitted then sold for around £20 each, could make yourself a few bob.
Good luck,
Peter
