The bowls are not ebony but lignum vitae. The discs may be ivory but quite possibly an early form of plastic. They were almost certainly made by Thomas Taylor of Glasgow. They have no significant intrinsic value.

I recently came into possession of an old set of bowling balls which are blackish brown with an insert of lighter coloured material on both sides. They have various numbers on them. Ther is also a smaller whitish coloured ball which has F.H.Ayers Ltd. London. on it with what I think is a maltese cross. Can anyone tell me anything about them please.
