CARNIVALS .....
Busselton Bowling Club is about to hold its 92nd consecutive
Annual Bowling Carnival...the event was first held in 1906
and at that time was called Carnival Week...Busselton being
a very popular seaside resort since long before 1906 was
a popular destination with Western Australians...so much
so that the Busselton Carnival was reported in 1922 as
being the biggest Country Bowling Carnival in Australia
in fact 1922 150 men nominated for the carnival week events
134 taking the mat in the singles competition. A special
train was put on to bring the bowlers from Perth to Busselton
for the carnival...the club at that time had the largest
bowling green in Western Australia ( 9 rinks) .
So much for history this years two day event looks like
it is almost a club game 25 teams on Sunday( Mens and Ladies 4's) so far
only two visiting from out of town and 16 on the Monday
which is a mixed fours day......
Which just shows how the popularity of Bowling Carnivals
has fallen away in this modern era....

Dear Sir, My lawn green bowls club is celebrating its centenary in 2006 and I was wondering if you could tell me what sort of clothes they would have been wearing for lawn green bowls in the year 1906.
Many thanks.
