FIRST SYNTHETIC GREEN IN THE AFRICAN CONTINENT .....
One for the record books - The first synthetic bowls green in the African continent is now open.
A full sized green was opened last week with 18 of the top bowlers in South Africa turning up including Gerry Baker in the 48 players. The green is at Waverley Bowls Club in Waverley, Johannesburg South Africa, just a short hop from the Wanderers cricket stadium and is run by yours truly Daron Smit. Expert technicians from Australia and Hong Kong using a laser levelling device installed the green on a crushed stone base to a tolerance of +/- 2mm. It is currently running at 13.5 - 14 seconds.
The club has a full bar and catering service and would welcome overseas tours - bowls, game parks, warm and sunny and a beer costs just USD 0.65 here. Contact us at (27) 11 786 2137 Fax or the above email - you're welcome for a roll up any time.

Hi Daron,
How's it going? How's the artificial green doing? How are you doing with your bowls? We go to Arizona end of Feb. for our training camp and they'll pick the Commonwealth team from there. Take care.
Mark.
