LOOKING FOR LAWN BOWLING HISTORY .....
I am an architect in Santa Monica, California, USA, and am looking for the history of lawn bowling in general and of its history in Santa Monica, in particular, where there is a lawn bowling club in one of the City parks. We are designing shade structures and remodeling an existing 1930's clubhouse and would like to learn about the history of this game and its idiosyncracies to possibly incorporate into the design of the project. I thank you for possible leads!

The USA has a web page with historical information on it. go to www.bowlsamerica.org
I've been a lawn bowler in California for the past 18 years....am the second youngest to represent the USA internationally...my partner is the youngest! Now, after only 18 years, i am considered an old-time by bowls standards...as most bowlers in the USA don't start until they're at least 55 years of age....i'm not even close to that yet!
The new artificial green in Santa Maria has a nice set of shade structures.
hope this helps

I am a chartered architect who has carried out many projects involving new and extended clubhouses and indoor bowls stadium in Scotland. My most recent was the restoration of the W.G.Grace pavilion at the Braid Bowling Club here in Edinburgh ( Grace captained the English team in the Home International Series of 1908 on our green). I am also a life-long bowler and have a large collection of bowls books, pamphlets and memorabilias dating back to the 1880's. What is it you would like to know.
