2018 Australian Indoor Championships Wrap – Day 1: Defending champ bundled out

Defending Men’s champion David Ferguson has suffered a shock opening-round upset on Day 1 of the 2018 Australian Indoor Championships.

Australia’s number one ranked male bowler went down in a match tie-breaker to Pete Bonsor (Towradgi Park, NSW), 11-2 2-11 (2-4) in the Round of 32.

Among the big names to progress through to the Round of 16 matches, some of which began late on Day 1 (Round of 16 winners noted with *), included Rebecca Van Asch*, Carla Krizanic, Chloe Stewart, Val Smith*, Kelly McKerihen and Samantha Noronha on the Women’s side of the draw, while Aaron Teys, Ryan Bester, Clive Adams and Ray Pearse were the notables over on the Men’s side. 

Bowls Australia (BA) will again be bringing you Round of 16 and Quarterfinal action to you tomorrow (Tuesday) via Rinkside Live, with matches TBC.
