Alice Springs Golf Club joins the Red Centre bowls community

Bowls Australia (BA) would like to officially welcome the Alice Springs Golf Club (ASGC) to the bowls community, with the club deciding to affiliating with BA after the club enjoyed a successful 12-month introduction to the sport.

In late 2016, with a vision to improve their club’s growth, ASGC decided to construct a bowling green and introduce the sport to what was traditionally a golfing and social club.

The introduction was swift, with club members and local residents alike taking to the game positively as the club became a Friday night hot-spot, with over 100 social bowlers having a go.

This included friends, colleagues and families who gravitated to the club following a local marketing push by ASGC, which included flyers on noticeboards in schools, shopping centres and caravan parks.

Following a year of success in the social space of bowls, with assistance from the Alice Springs Memorial Bowls club, AGSC decided to affiliate with BA.

In conduction with Bowls Northern Territory (BNT), BA visited the new club on the Wednesday, September 20 to officially welcome the club to the Australian bowls community and provide them with the resources needed to be a successful club, including information on social and junior programs, umpire, coaching and officiating education and an introduction to the Club Support portal

Jo Hansen, President of ASGC, expressed her thanks to the bowls community for the promotion of their club, ensuring it would forge a reputation as a scheduled stop-in for many bowlers throughout the country.
