Australia sets the pace at the World Youth Champs

Australia’s brightest young stars enjoyed a blistering start to the World Youth Championships at Broadbeach yesterday, claiming a total of 20 wins from 26 rubbers contested across the two rounds of the three disciplines.

Three of the nation’s eight players contesting the event retained an unblemished record in both their singles and mixed pairs disciplines, with Ellen Ryan, Kristina Krstic and Aaron Teys securing four victories throughout the day.

Corey Wedlock, Chloe Stewart and Tiffany Brodie also kept the ledger untarnished in the singles discipline, with all three leading their section in the current standings.

Wedlock has a six shot margin over second-placed Teys in section one of the men’s singles, Stewart has a 25 shot lead over third placed Krstic in section one of the women’s, and Brodie is two shots clear in pole position of the women’s section two.

Ryan and Teys also headline section one of the mixed pairs discipline, following clinical victories against Wales and Malaysia late in the day.
