Australians primed to strike at World Champ of Champs

Aaron Teys notched up another three victories on day three of the World Champion of Champions at St Johns Park, but Carla Krizanic suffered her first blemish of the tournament.

Teys climbed to third on the ladder in his section on the back of three straight-sets wins across the day, which puts him just one game away from the top-placed Scotland competitor, Derek Oliver.

The Warilla ace has now enjoyed six victories from eight starts, with his two defeats occurring in Monday’s opening two rounds.

In today’s encounters, Teys faces Cyprus’ Bob Manson in round nine this morning, followed by Ireland’s second-placed Barry Kane.

Krizanic also finds herself in third place in her women’s section, after dropping one position as a result of narrow round seven defeat yesterday; her first of the tournament.

The Sunbury spearhead was upstaged by the Isle of Man’s Bernice McGreal by 1 shot in each set, 6-7, 6-7, which mitigated her opportunity to become the outright leader of her pool.

Krizanic is now level with England’s Donna Knight and South Africa’s Nici Neal on 15 points, but is three-and-a-half sets and one set behind those two on the ladder respectively.

Standing in Krizanic’s way today is Hong Kong China’s Dorothy Yu, Fiji’s Sheryl Mar and Canada’s Mary Wright.

The World Champion of Champions continues until Sunday evening at NSW’s St Johns Park, with free entry daily to view all the action.
