Ferguson and Ryan stake their claim in the latest Player Rankings

For NSW state skipper Ferguson, his long-awaited maiden victory at a national event came with the added bonus of leaping to a career-best national ranking, jumping from 19th to 5th and the top ranked New South Welshman.

Similarly Ryan, who’s golden run over the past few months has included the illustrious Australian Open Player of the Tournament crown, has pulled to within 10 points of current number one Carla Krizanic (Sunbury, VIC) after a semi-final finish at the Indoors and now sits entrenched in 2nd place overall.

Their success comes at the expense of last year’s champions Jeremy Henry (Warilla, NSW) and Natasha Scott (Raymond Terrace, NSW), with Henry in particular dropping fifteen spots to 20th on the conjested Male rankings table. While Scott has only fallen three places to 5th, her shock first-round exit at the Indoors has seen her rolling points tally fall from 340 to 229.

The Indoors also proved fruitful for Women’s Finalists Kelly McKerihen (Canada/Clayton, VIC) and Rebecca Van Asch (Invermay, TAS), who creep up to 3rd and 4th respectively and are now within striking distance of Krizanic and Ryan at the top of the leaderboard.

The Male rankings continue to be headed by Victorian and Australian representative Barrie Lester (Mulgrave, VIC), with the top four unchanged and rounded out by Lee Schraner (Rosny Park, TAS), Garry Ball (Deer Park, VIC) and Australian Open singles champion Nathan Pedersen (Modbury, SA).

The National Rankings System operates on a yearly rolling-points system, where all points accrued are retained for twelve month period and are then discounted. The rankings year concludes at the completion of the Australian Open in June 2018, with the number one ranked males and females earning the titles of Male and Female Bowlers of the Year and cool $3,000 prize purses each!
