The sports National Selection Panel have today unveiled their line-up for six upcoming events, both domestic tournaments and International non-capped events, comprising a mix of Open Australian Jackaroos and Australian Emerging Jackaroos Squad members.
Of the 20 top tiered Jackaroos and 14 from the Emerging Squad, 16 players have been selected to represent Bowls Australia at the Soldiers Point Classic, the Soldiers Point Invitation Men’s Pairs, Ettalong Classic Fours, North East Valley Singles and the Hong Kong Classic.
Four players tasted victory in events in 2017 and have been rewarded the opportunity to defend their titles; Jesse Noronha and Ben Twist will head to the Hong Kong International as Defending Pairs Champions, whilst Noronha will also aim to defend his singles title.
Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Aaron Wilson will look to replicate his performance from last year when he attempts back-to-back North East Valley Singles titles.
The North East Valley Singles is a prestigious men’s singles tournament which attracts the best players from all over New Zealand; Wilson will travel across the Tasman with one of Australia’s established singles players, a former Australian Singles representative and World Champion of Champion Singles Winner Scott Thulborn.
Aron Sherriff will return to his former club looking to defend his Ettalong Classic Fours title albeit with a new look team; Wayne Ruediger makes a return to Jackaroos Squad duties, whilst Australia’s number one ranked male bowler David Ferguson is given an opportunity to impress, Ben Twist will slip in as third in what will be a busy week for the newly capped Australian Jackaroo.
The seven consecutive days of competition for Ben Twist kicks off at the Soldiers Point Classic where three teams of four have been selected for a quad series against the NSW State Reserve Men, an invitational Men’s NSW Over 40’s team and the NSW Over 60’s State Side.
Four female squad members have been selected, Former Australian Open Under 18 Champion Tiffany Brodie will lead for Scott Thulborn, Australian Jackaroos Ellen Ryan and Natasha Scott will combine with Curtis Hanley and Corey Wedlock, whilst Sam Shannahan is back in the Australian Selectors eyes and will play second for our recently crowned Australian Open Men’s Pairs Winner Carl Healey.
And last but not least, Ellen Ryan and Natasha Scott will join Noronha and Twist on the plane to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong International Singles and Pairs from November 7 to 19; this will be the first time both girls have played in this event and in 2018 selectors have opted to make this a non-capped event.
Bowls Australia and in particular National Coach Steve Glasson would like to thank the clubs and associations for extending these invitations for Bowls Australia to submit teams into your events.
