Another former titleholder has escaped the carnage of the Australian Indoor Championships’ knockout format to contest a second round at Tweed Heads.
Jamie-Lee Worsnop, who became the youngest ever winner of the event in 2014, notched up a straights sets victory against Somerton’s Yvonne Bekeris, 12-8, 9-6, in tonight’s fifth session of round one action.
Worsnop’s next opponent will be Cabramatta’s Lauretta Marchese, who entered the winners’ circle with a tiebreak win against Raymond Terrace’s Lynne Thompson, with the pair to meet at 10am tomorrow.
Weston Creek’s Sharon Steele and her club mate Todd Trewarne, Engadine’s David Ferguson and Soldiers Point William Ahoy also prevailed in this evening’s fifth session, and will take to the greens again tomorrow morning for their next contest.
