Endmoor entered history in 1534 via the rack in the Tower of London, for ‘Ennesmore’ was recorded during the interrogation of William Colyns, Bailiff of Kendal, following the suppression of the revolt against  Henry V111 known as the Pilgrimage of Grace.

Colyns survived his ‘stretch’ in the Tower, avoided being hanged, drawn and quartered.

It seems that Mr Wakefield of the Gunpowder Works at Gatebeck had the Bowling Green built.

From the Sports Club meeting report (May 1923)

The cost of expert advice on laying the Bowling Green was £3.

Laying the Bowling Green was £79 and a payment of £20 made to the Bowling Club.

In connection with the Endmoor and District Sports Club, a sale of works was held in Enyeat Tennis Court on Saturday 27 May.1923.

The Gatebeck Brass Band was present.

An interesting part of the day’s proceedings was the opening of the bowling green. Mr J.W.Howie, of Kendal, before declaring the green open, he referred to the pleasant and healthful nature of the game, and Colonel Weston thanked Mr. Howie for his presence.

Afterwards Mr. Howie and Mr.J.Mawson, also of Kendal, played the first game on the green, and later many of the village’s prospective players tried their hands with the woods. After the exhibition game of bowls Mr. Howie presented the green with a pair of bowls, and was thanked by members of the executive for his gift.

There was a meeting of the bowling section of the Sports’ Club on Thursday 25 April 1924.

The Ground Committee had purchased a water ballast roller, the boundary wall of the green was being rebuilt and the provision of a pavilion was under consideration.  The annual subscription was fixed at five shillings.

The first recorded home match was on Wednesday 19 June 1924
