About the Club

The first lawn bowls club in Sarina was MILLANPA Bowling Green (MILLANPA stands for Plane Creek MILL and Australian National Power Alcohol). MILLANPA was opened to cane farmers, Power Alcohol or Mill employees and Mill shareholders only. If you were not in the sugar industry you were not entitled to bowl at MILLANPA Bowling Club which closed its green in 1954.

The Sarina Bowls Club had its genesis in 1936 when a group of business men, bankers and members of the community who wanted to play lawn bowls came together to establish the Sarina Bowls Club. The Sarina Bowls Club became fully operational and was officially opened on Saturday 13th November 1937. The first President of the Sarina Bowls Club was J.A. (Alex) Johnston from 1937 to 1940 and again from 1945 to 1949.

The Sarina Ladies Bowls Club did not come into existence until 1942 with the first Lady President being Mrs W.M. Jackson in 1942 who was succeeded by Mrs M. Johnston who held the position from 1943 to 1945.

The club then was situated in Broad Street, which is now the current site of the Sarina Leagues Club. The Bowls Club operated from this site until 1976, until a donation of a three acre land title on Beach Road by the Petersen family, where the present club house was built.
