Forty days to go to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and we start our What it means to be selected feature starting with Wales’ back-to-back reigning men’s pairs gold medallist Daniel Salmon (pictured left) who says:
“Being selected for the Commonwealth Games is amazing and means a lot to me. Representing your country at a Commonwealth Games is special; it’s a very proud moment for myself and my family who’ve supported me along the way.
“Winning gold previously is obviously a special achievement and has created unforgettable memories that will stay with me forever, but once the competition starts, everyone starts on the same footing. I think my focus at the moment is to play well, enjoy the experience and give everything I can for the team.
“Preparation has been going well. We’ve put in a lot of work over the last few months and hopefully it will give us the confidence going into the Games.
“The new format is an exciting step for the sport. It should create a quicker, more spectator-friendly event and hopefully attract new fans. Having bowls included in the Commonwealth Games is so important because it gives our sport incredible exposure and inspires the next generation to get involved.”
