The Gold and Bronze medal matches taking place today will feature some very special guests, who will head onto the rink to perform the ceremonial toss using the new World Bowls coin.

HAZEL SACHAROWITZ is the World Bowls Head Classifier for Visually Impaired Bowlers. She is an Optometrist from Johannesburg, South Africa with a special interest in low vision and a strong commitment to improving opportunities for people with vision impairment. Hazel helps ensure that visually impaired bowlers are classified fairly and that the competition remains equitable, credible, and inclusive.

DARREN BURNETT is one of Scotland’s most successful and longest serving international players and is a member of the World Bowls Hall of Fame. The best year of Darren’s career came in 2014 when he was crowned World Indoor Singles champion before his unforgettable triumph at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games winning gold in the men’s singles.

WILLIE WOOD MBE is Scotland’s most capped Commonwealth athlete, appearing in a record-breaking eight Games. Willie is a member of the World Bowls Hall of Fame and won four Games medals including gold in the singles at Brisbane in 1982, and bronze in the singles in 1974 in Christchurch.

MARGARET LETHAM is recognised as one of Scotland’s best-ever skips, indoors and outdoors and is a member of the World Bowls Hall of Fame. In partnership with the late, great Joyce Lindores, Margaret struck gold in the women’s pairs at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
