Julie O’Connell’s debut at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games was a remarkable one. Not only was she New Zealand’s most mature (😉) athlete, it was also her first international competition using an on-green wheelchair.

The chair enabled Julie to compete on the world stage while managing her physical challenges and meeting the event’s competition requirements.

Melrose Wheelchairs are outstanding supporters of para athletes, and we would like to thank Philippa and her team for providing the chair that helped Julie compete at the highest level.

Julie visited the Melrose team this week to present a signed team shirt in recognition of their generous support.
