The death of Scottish international Mary Stevenson, just two months after she won a gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, has saddened the bowls community around the world.

The Shanks BC player, 74, played in the Visually Impaired Mixed Pairs with Robert Barr, alongside directors Sarah Jane Ewing and Jim Aitken.

Their win meant Mary became both the oldest member of Team Scotland and the oldest woman to win a gold medal in their history.

A retired chauffeur from Paisley, Mary took up bowls at the age of 61 when her sight began to deteriorate.

She was competing for Scotland in a test match this weekend.

Bowls Scotland has spoken fondly of the joy on display during the medal winning moment in July and how Mary was nicknamed ‘Mary Queen of Shots.’
