What a moment for sport in Aotearoa!

What a moment for sport in Aotearoa!

On Saturday we welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to celebrate 100 years of sporting connection between India and New Zealand.

A century on from the Indian Army hockey team’s first tour of New Zealand in 1926, Sport NZ and India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports signed the India-New Zealand Joint Action Plan on sport, building on the Memorandum of Cooperation signed last year.

We had the chance to showcase New Zealand’s high performance system and innovation – a snapshot of what helps our athletes succeed on the world stage.

We’re also pleased to see support confirmed through the Event Boost Fund for 100 Years of Unity through Sport – a year-long programme of sport, community and cultural events across Aotearoa. A series of sporting events will take place later this year in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington, with cricket, bowls and football matches already confirmed and more events to be announced.

Sport has always been one of the strongest links between our nations and Saturday was a reminder of what we can achieve together through that connection.
